How to Disable windows Update

While regular Windows updates are essential for maintaining the security and functionality of your operating system, some users may choose to disable updates for various reasons. It's important to note that disabling updates poses security risks, and it's generally recommended to keep your system up-to-date. 

There are several reasons why we would want to disable our Windows update on our PC. One of the major reasons is to save or minimize internet data consumption, and there are other reasons like avoiding forced restarts, compatibility issues, control over system changes, or helping the system run smoothly in some cases.

There are different ways of doing it, but we will explain the steps of disabling Windows updates using the Windows registry because it is an effective way to do it. 

Stopping Windows Update via Services.msc:

Open the Run Dialog:

Press Win + R to open the Run dialog.

Open Services:

Type services.msc into the Run dialog and press Enter. This opens the service window.



Locate the Windows Update Service:

In the Services window, scroll down to find the "Windows Update" service.

Stop the service.

Right-click on "Windows Update" and select "Stop" from the context menu. This will temporarily halt the Windows Update service.


Reverting Changes:

To re-enable Windows Update, repeat the steps above, right-click on "Windows Update," and choose "Start."

Regular updates are crucial for your system's security, stability, and overall performance. Always re-enable the Windows update as soon as the need for disabling it is resolved.
