How to convert a 2D logo to a 3D logo in Adobe Photoshop

Converting your 2D logo to a 3D logo in Adobe Photoshop is a process that requires you to get an external file(s) called a mockup. A mockup is a static representation of a product, showing users and stakeholders how it may look and be used. It contains elements such as typography, logos, etc.

In Adobe Photoshop, there are different kinds of mockups, like T-shirt mockups, text effects, 3D logo mockups, and their likes.

In this blog post, we will talk about the technical steps on how to convert a 2D logo to a 3D logo using a mockup in Adobe Photoshop.

1. Get your Design ready:

You must first get your design ready in 2D, preferably saved without background (a transparent background) as a.png file, and ensure that your 2D logo is in a high-resolution format.

2. Choose a Suitable Mockup:

You can find different 3D logo mockups online; some may be free, while others are paid. Select and download a 3D logo mockup that suits your design style.

3. Open the mockup in Photoshop:

You are to launch the downloaded mockup in Photoshop. When the mockup is loaded, locate the layer panel on the right side of Photoshop to see all the layers of the mockup design.

4. Place Your Logo into the Mockup:

Locate the layer that carries the title (place your logo or your logo here). Double-click to open it, and then drag and drop, copy and paste your 2D logo with a transparent background, or go to

file > place embedded to place the 2D file. Adjust its size and position as needed.

5. Transform the Logo to Fit the Perspective:

You can also use the transform tool (ctrl + t or Command + t) to adjust the logo's size and perspective, aligning it with the mockup's 3D space.

Hold down the shift key to maintain proportion.

6. Save the placed file:

Save your placed work using ctrl + s, and then close that very tab and go back to the tab of the 3D logo to view.

7. Adjust Lighting and Shadows:

If the mockup has lighting and shadow layers, adjust their opacity and position to match the lighting conditions in the mockup. This step adds realism to the 3D effect.

8. Modify Logo Layers:

If necessary, duplicate your logo layer and apply various filters or adjustments to create depth. Experiment with layer styles like Bevel & Emboss or Gradient Overlay to enhance the 3D appearance.

9. Refine Details:

Fine-tune the details of your logo, making sure it seamlessly integrates with the mockup. Pay attention to edges, shadows, and reflections for a realistic look.

10. Save Your 3D Logo:

Once satisfied with the adjustments, save your 3D logo as a new file to preserve the original 2D version.

11. Export the Final Image:

Export the final image in a suitable format, such as PNG or JPEG, depending on your needs.

Remember to practice and experiment with different settings to achieve the desired 3D effect.
